Making Healthcare Easier: An Opportunity for Employers to Make a Difference

We talk a lot about employee health engagement. But I think we sometimes forget what it actually feels like to be the person navigating the healthcare system.

When you're trying to understand your benefits, find the right doctor, figure out what something will cost, or decide what care you really need, it can be overwhelming. And when you're already juggling work, family, and everything else life brings, healthcare can feel like one more thing you're just trying to get through.

Gallup research puts active engagement in health at just 23% of working adults.

Our first instinct is often to ask how we can motivate people to do more, make better choices, or strive for optimal health.

But what would healthcare look like if we made it easier for people to simply take care of themselves?

Choosing the easiest path doesn't mean someone doesn't care about their health. Sometimes, it means they're overwhelmed. They don't know where to start. Or they don't have the time, support, or guidance to figure it all out.

This is where employers have an incredible opportunity to make a difference.

For many people, their employer-sponsored health plan is their primary connection to the healthcare system. Employers have the ability to do more than offer benefits. They can help make those benefits easier to understand, easier to use, and more supportive of the people who depend on them.

And when employees have someone in their corner to help them navigate the system, the impact can reach far beyond a single doctor's visit or claim.

Not more pressure to do everything perfectly, but real help making healthcare work for them.

I'd love to hear from brokers: What's something you've learned about employees and their healthcare decisions that changed the way you approach benefits?
